Thankfully, this can soon be fixed by progressing to the next stage of its evolution, with a single piece extending the body being enough to make this creature seem suitably sized. Add to that a longer tail and a small pair of wings, and while this dragon might not be flying just yet, it’s a lot more intimidating. I suppose it does look a bit more fierce now. The colors in the dragon are matched by Kai’s outfit, right down to the brown “boots” on both. From the side, it has a similar profile to the Thunder Dragon, except that it’s slightly taller, and longer. The final form of the fire dragon is likely going to be your preferred option, with added armour, a saddle, bigger wings and a jet of flame bursting out of the tail. From the pearl gold pieces to the exclusive banner design, every aspect plays into the dragon’s colour scheme and design, helping to accentuate its most important features.

That was necessary to recreate the battle scene from the instructions: One chain wasn’t quite long enough to reach around the dragon’s jaw without putting the Boa Destructor right next to it. The tail is too stubby, and the head is almost comically oversized for the body. But it’s sort of chibi and “cute” is a plus when it comes to companions. The dragon starts out small, but the you can lengthen it, and add on a seat, as well as lightning bolts for the tail.

Flame, along with the other dragons, perform something similar to Spinjitzu when they travel between realms. It’s been a while since I’ve had to build a set at this scale, meant for younger kids, and I really enjoyed the simplicity and playability of it all. With just the right number of minifigures, and an awesome dragon that you can level up. The ball-jointed limbs and tail, combined with the posable jaw, do give you a lot of options for charismatic stances, at least. I have to note, though, that the bar on the long ankle joint on the front legs feels ripe for a sports-related sprain or break.
